“Revolutions aren’t always noisy – and as the world around them broke up in war and turmoil, Dora Pejačević and Karol Szymanowski let their imaginations soar, creating beauty that still thrills and ravishes today.” These words introduce the BBC Symphony Orchestra’s upcoming concert, scheduled for November 8, featuring a work by Dora Pejačević! As part of its 2024/2025 season, the distinguished Orchestra, led by its chief conductor Sakari Oramo, will perform and record Pejačević’s Overture for Large Orchestra in D minor, Op. 49 live at London’s Barbican. The program also includes Violin Concerto No. 1 by Karol Szymanowski, performed by Russian-born Swiss violinist Ilya Gringolts, as well as Death and Transfiguration, Op. 24 by Richard Strauss, and Siegfried Idyll by Richard Wagner.
With this performance and recording of Pejačević’s Overture, Sakari Oramo and the BBC Symphony Orchestra continue their outstanding series of performances honoring this remarkable Croatian composer – Dora Pejačević. The sheet music has been provided by the Croatian Music Information Centre of the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall.
