Australian premiere of Dora’s Piano Quintet in Canberra!

15.06.2022.

After regularly successful and notable European performances of Dora Pejačević’s orchestral works, the Australian audience will have the opportunity to hear a composition from Dora’s chamber opus. Piano Quintet in B minor, Op. 40, with Brahms Piano Trio no. 2 in C major, Op. 87, will be performed by the Chamber Ensemble of the Canberra Symphony Orchestra! A concert entitled Great Romantics will be held on Sunday, June 19, 2022 at the Albert Hall in Yarralumla, Canberra. In announcing the concert, organizers point out:

Born into Croatian nobility and cosmopolitan influence, Dora Pejačević was a pioneer of fin de siècle sounds in her home country of Hungary. Though largely unknown for a century after her death – and rarely programmed in Australia – she is without doubt one of the most significant musical voices of the early twentieth century. In Pejačević’s Piano Quintet, we hear the influence of Richard Strauss, one of her contemporaries: it’s rhapsodic, lyrical, opulent, luxuriantly harmonied and effusively Romantic.

Dora’s Quintet is performed from the music edition of the Music Information Centre of the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall.
