MIC Participates in the Celebration of the 104th Anniversary of the Music Academy Library in Zagreb

2.12.2025.

On Monday, 1 December 2025, the Library of the Music Academy of the University of Zagreb – one of the most important and comprehensive music libraries in Croatia – celebrated the 104th anniversary of its founding. The programme took place in the Reading Room, featuring representatives of Croatian music publishers and musical intermezzi performed by Academy students.

The opening address on behalf of the Academy was delivered by Prof. Anđelko Krpan, Vice Dean for Artistic Affairs, followed by a welcome speech by the Head of the Library, Dr Željka Radovinović. In her remarks, she highlighted the importance of donations of books, sheet music, and memorabilia for the enrichment of the Library’s collection, expressed gratitude to all donors, and presented them with commemorative certificates. Among the recipients was the Croatian Music Information Centre of the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall, which has supported the work of this higher education arts institution for many years through its publications.

The central part of the event was dedicated to the presentation of recent publishing activities. Participating were a number of Croatian publishers of sheet music and musicological literature, including the Croatian Association of Orchestral and Chamber Musicians, Igor Pomykalo’s Early Music Edition, the Felix Spiller Editions, the Croatian Musicological Society, Cantus Ltd., and the Croatian Music Information Centre.

The CMIC Publishing Catalogue for 2025 was presented by CMIC Manager Jelena Vuković. At the beginning of her presentation, she emphasised the importance of cooperation and greater visibility of all publishing initiatives in Croatia, so that Croatian music may reach both national and international stages. As an example of a successful long-term project, she highlighted MIC’s work on the oeuvre of Dora Pejačević, whose compositions are now increasingly performed abroad thanks to these sustained efforts.

She then presented CMIC’s new and recent publications: Stjepan Šulek’s Sixth Symphony, published on the occasion of the Zagreb Music Spring festival and accompanied by an extensive exhibition and special programme organised by MIC; the large-scale score of Fran Lhotka’s ballet suite Devil in the Village; the ninth volume of Tomaso Cecchini’s Opera omnia, Cinque messe; the Selected Quartets by Miljenko Prohaska; and Concerto for Harpsichord and Strings, Chiaro-schuro (full score and piano reduction) by Miroslav Miletić, issued to mark the 100th anniversary of the composers’ births. She also introduced new editions of Dora Pejačević’s works (Fugues and Overtures for piano), as well as her piano suite The Life of Flowers arranged for guitar (arr. Xhevdet Sahatxhija). She especially highlighted one of CMIC’s most demanding publications of the year, soon to be released – Religiofonia (Symphony of the Orient) by Josip Štolcer Slavenski – a work the MIC team is eagerly anticipating.

Guests were invited to browse and explore the publications of all participating publishers at the Library’s special exhibition area.

MIC was delighted to take part in marking this important anniversary and extends its warmest congratulations to the Library of the Music Academy, wishing it a happy 104th birthday and many more years of successful work and fruitful collaboration.
