MIC Performance Materials Featured on Podiums in Zagreb, Germany, and Romania

May 2025 was a month of intense domestic and international presence for the Croatian Music Information Centre of KDVL – on May 9, as part of the Zagreb Music Spring, Stjepan Šulek’s Sixth Symphony was performed at the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall using the newly published MIC edition. At the same time, on international stages, works by Dora Pejačević were brought to life by prominent ensembles and artists, using MIC’s performance materials.

At the 10th Philharmonic Concert, held on May 14 and 15, 2025, at Mercatorhalle in Duisburg, the Duisburg Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Stefan Blunier performed a program titled Ausflug in die Unterwelt (Trip to the Underworld), which included Dora Pejačević’s Overture in D minor, Op. 49.

Following the performance in Duisburg, Pejačević’s work was also featured in Bonn, where on May 16 and 18, 2025, her Concerto for Piano and Orchestra in G minor, Op. 33 was performed. Part of the symphonic concert cycle of the Academic Orchestra Bonn in the University Aula in Bonn, the concerts were conducted by Daniel Johannes Mayr, with young Croatian pianist Mia Pečnik as soloist.

“This concert holds a special place in my heart – not only is it the first piano concerto in the history of Croatian music, but it was written by an extraordinary woman who championed gender equality and devoted her life to humanitarian causes. Dora Pejačević was ahead of her time, and her music still speaks with a profoundly resonant voice. To share her legacy in a city as historically rich as Bonn – the home of Beethoven – was a deeply meaningful experience. Thank you to the wonderful audience for the warm welcome”, the young pianist shared on social media.

The month of May will be concluded with a performance of Overture for Large Orchestra in D minor, Op. 49 by Dora Pejačević, to be held on May 29, 2025, at Sala Thalia in the Romanian city of Sibiu. The piece will be performed by the State Philharmonic of Sibiu, conducted by Maestro Andrej Vesel.

The May concerts in Zagreb, Duisburg, Bonn, and Sibiu, featuring works by Šulek and Pejačević, have once again confirmed the pivotal role of the Croatian Music Information Centre in promoting Croatian music on both domestic and international stages, and in preserving its musical heritage.
