Centuries of Croatian Music I.

This is a translation of the updated and expanded edition of the author’s book, published in Croatian as Stoljeća hrvatske glazbe (Školska knjiga, Zagreb, 1980). Volume I includes the period of Croatian music history from the earliest beginnings to the 18th century, and Volume II encompasses music romanticism in Croatia with a special emphasis on the works and oeuvres of Vatroslav Lisinksi and Ivan Zajc and of the “composers’ circles” of their contemporaries. The book is abundant with pictures and photographs of manuscripts, old prints and title pages of compositions, theoretical papers, documents, and score examples of compositions dealt with in the book. Every chapter also contains a detailed bibliography.
