About the music edition:
Tomislav Uhlik (Zagreb, 1956) studied music theory and conducting from the Academy of Music in Zagreb. He belongs to the generation of Croatian composers whose body of work contains over hundred compositions for various ensembles, from choirs, tamburitza and accordion orchestras, to chamber ensembles and wind and symphonic orchestras. His compositions written in the style of folklore have been especially appreciated and received world-wide performances as a part of a repertoire of the Croatian Folklore Ensemble Lado where his career as a music director initially started. „With Jazz Sonatina, I supported Goran Merčep's idea to publish a collection of new compositions for the saxophone, for various generations of young musicians. Personally, I am fond of jazz and often use it in my work. Jazz sonatina was modelled on a classic three-movement sonatina. Its performing and musical qualities are more suited to upper-level students.“ (Tomislav Uhlik)
