About the music edition:
Boris Papandopulo wrote the composition Variations and fugue on a popular Croatian theme for piano, op. 37 – as he noted at the end of the score – “In Zagreb, Christmas 1932”. The composer took as his theme for the variations and fugue the Croatian people’s Christmas carol Unto us is born the King of Heaven (Narodi nam se Kralj nebeski). For a number of years, the autograph of the composition was considered lost, in other words, no one knew where it was. The fate of the autograph and the fact that it is still in existence is the result of a lucky set of circumstances, and is also due to the intercession of people who reacted promptly and saved it literally in the nick of time...
