Sheet Music Edition Promotion Held and Exhibition Opened!

30.12.2024.

As part of the celebration of “Lisinski Hall Day” on December 29, 2024, a promotion of the sheet music edition of the comic opera Amphitryon by Boris Papandopulo, one of the most important Croatian composers of the 20th century, was held in the Foyer of the Main Hall. This impressive edition includes the full score and piano reduction in three volumes spanning over 1,000 pages, representing a pinnacle of the long-term dedicated work of the Croatian Music Information Centre of the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall.

The promotion gathered distinguished participants from the world of music and musicology, including the Vice Dean for International and Institutional Cooperation of the Academy of Music, Prof. Art. Martina Gojčeta Silić, Assistant in the Department of Conducting, Maestro Matija Fortuna, bass-baritone Benjamin Šuran, editorial advisor at MIC, musicologist Davor Merkaš, and MIC manager Jelena Vuković. In addition to a professional presentation of the edition and a dynamic and engaging discussion, the audience had the opportunity to enjoy an exceptional musical program featuring excerpts from Amphitryon. The spirit of this witty opera was brought to life through performances by soprano Marija Salečić (Alcmene), bass-baritone Benjamin Šuran (Amphitryon), baritone Josip Galić (Zeus), tenor Aljaž Žgavec (Sosias), and tenor Josip Švagelj (Mercury), accompanied on piano by Maestro Ivan Šćepanović. The revival of this opera is, in itself, a fascinating story.

The Croatian Music Information Centre extends its gratitude to all collaborators whose dedicated work contributed to the realization of this extraordinary edition. Special thanks go to editors Davor Merkaš, Jelena Vuković, and Ana Unkić for their expert project management, as well as to Domagoj Kresnik for meticulous editing and notation. Sincere thanks to Felix Spiller for careful proofreading, Rosanda Tometić for editing the introductory musicological texts written by musicologist Davor Merkaš, and Graham McMaster for the translation that makes this edition accessible to a wider international audience. Thanks also to Daniel Ille for the unique graphic design of the text and cover, further enriching the visual identity of this monumental work. This project would not have been possible without the financial support of the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia and the City of Zagreb.

Exhibition “Music in Disguise: The Artistic Attire of Sheet Music Editions”

Following the promotion, the exhibition “Music in Disguise: The Artistic Attire of Sheet Music Editions” was opened on the Upper Ground Floor. The exhibition celebrates the unique blend of music and visual art through the covers of MIC sheet music editions. Inspired by the spirit of carnival, it showcases covers predominantly created by the multi-award-winning graphic designer Daniel Ille. Each cover tells its own story, highlighting the importance of visual identity in music publishing.

The Croatian Music Information Centre expresses its gratitude to everyone involved in the organization and realization of this exceptional event, as well as to all visitors who supported its work with their attendance!
